Castlevania: Lords of Shadow developer Mercury Steam is working on a new project for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC that is "completely different" from the fantasy series it has been known for during recent years.

Producer Dave Cox made the announcement during a recent roundtable interview session for Lords of Shadow 2 attended by GameSpot. He also confirmed that this project will skip the Wii U, but did not explain why.

Though Cox wouldn't go into more detail about this next game, he teased in 2012 that Mercury Steam has a couple of "really cool ideas" in the works, adding that "it's no secret that I'm a big fan of Contra and I'd like to do something in that universe."

Also in the interview, Cox explained that Mercury Steam had a number of ideas that never made it into Lords of Shadow 2. These ideas, including unspecified combat mechanics, may come to fruition in the developer's new game, Cox said.

"Making a game is a lear天龙八部sf一条龙收徒ning experience," he said, noting that lessons learned during one project are often applied to the next.

Finally, Cox brought some bad news for gamers hoping to play Lords of Shadow 2 on the Xbox One or PlayStation 4. Despite considering the option in 2013, Cox said Konami has no plans to port the game to those new systems because it would mean changing the game engine significantly.

"It would mean kind of taking five steps back," he said.

Asked if Konami could contract another studio

to port the game to the Xbox One and PS4, Cox said, "I suppose it's not out of the question, but it's not something that's on our radar right now."

Lords of Shadow 2 launches for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC on February 25. It is the final installment in the series to be developed by Mercury Steam, though Konami has not ruled out moving the series forward with a new studio.
